13 weeks 40 hrs/wk Nights JOB SUMMARY The Sonographer maintains all standards of the Sonography Area established by the Department of Radiology. ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY A. Reports to: Clinical Leads of In/Out Patient and Vascular/Vein/Regional Services B. Supervises: NA C. Key Working Relationships: Radiologist, Nursing Units, Radiology Staff, Laboratory, Interpreting Physicians D. Primary Customer Groups: General Public, Medical Staff, Patients, Vendors, Unit Nurses E. Age/Population of Patients served: Neonatal Adolescent Geriatric Pediatric Adult x All Ages ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A. Schedules and completes all Ultrasound/Vascular procedures as described in the policy and procedure manual; assists in the coordination of procedures with the radiologist and interpreting physicians. B. Accurately identifies and transports patients to and from the department. C. Assumes responsibility for image management (PACS) and completes department related Hospital Information System (HIS) and Radiology Information System (RIS) functions. D. Responds to telephone inquiries and provides accurate information to customers of all age groups. E. Instructs other radiological technologists, Sonographers and students in Ultrasound/Vascular procedures. F. Maintains supplies in the Sonography Area. G. Participates in the Ultrasound Ergonomic Program H. Performs consent process with the patient and ensures all documents are completed prior to exam. I. Supervises the technical aspect of the Sonography Area in the absence of the Sonography Supervisor providing support and leadership skills. J. Maintains quality assurance program for the Ultrasound Area and coordinates preventative maintenance and service activities with the OEM service engineer and/or Bio-Med Department. K. Actively participates in departmental Commitment to Colleagues. L. Communicates with and performs duties following MercyOne North Iowa Service Excellence Standards of Behavior. M. Technology). N. Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations. O. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. P. Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development, and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs. Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. S. Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager or department head. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS A. Assists the OB Department in scheduling and coordination of the Perinatology Clinic. B. Completes comprehensive/complete OB sonography exams in the Perinatology Clinic. C. Travels to network ultrasound sites and completes ultrasound procedures as described in the procedure manual. D. The Sonographer is prepared to assume responsibility for the ultrasound area in the absence of the Sonography Supervisor, providing support and leadership skills. E. Assists in clinical/didactic training of Ultrasound Interns. Assumes the role of Program Director in his/her absence POSITION QUALIFICATIONS A. Education [formal]: 1. Must be board eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer required at hire/transfer. 2. Must be certified as a RDMS in ABD, OB/GYN, Breast and RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) with in a 2-year period. B. Experience: 1. Demonstrated competence in Sonography is preferred C. Special Skills and Competencies: 1. Must be able to take call. 2. May be required to alternate shifts. 3. Must possess a valid Driver’s License if performing as Mobile Sonographer. 4. Must be able to read, write and/or speak English. x Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Provider-American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status. x Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes MANDT Training within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
